After reading over a dozen different explanations for the term aging in place, I decided to consolidate my own definition. This is from the perspective of a leading edge boomer as we are called.
Aging in place is a term used to describe a person who is trying to live out their life in the kind of residence that they choose, whether it be in their original home or by transplanting themselves to an age friendlier home or apartment.
It requires being able to have all the services (or other support) they might need over time. Needs change over time and you need to think ahead to how will I be able to use outside support to stay in the home. Being proactive not crisis driven makes an enormous difference.
Real aging in place is not the easy life style offered by the ads of the standard retirement communities. Maintaining the necessary level of independence to safely stay where you want, can be a challenge that is can be better met by linking with others. This website is hopefully going to promote that silver social network.
